Shenandoah National Park dominates the eastern half of this 1965 survey, where the winding path of Skyline Drive follows the crest of the Blue Ridge. High-elevation recreation centers like Skyland and Big Meadows are clearly established, featuring the Byrd Visitor Center and Big Meadows Campground. The rugged interior is crisscrossed by the Appalachian Trail and specialized paths such as the White Oak Canyon Trail and Limberlost Trail, highlighting the area's transition into a protected wilderness during the mid-20th century.

In the lowland Page Valley to the west, the landscape remains oriented toward agriculture and rail transport. The Norfolk and Western railroad corridor serves the established communities of Stanley and Marksville. Rural life is marked by numerous small congregations and family landmarks, including Mt Carmel Ch, Hawksbill Ch, and St George Ch, alongside several unlabeled Cem sites. These valley settlements contrast sharply with the preserved mountain slopes, where old logging or homestead routes like Stony Mtn Fire Road still reach toward the peaks of Hawksbill and Stony Mtn.
