Highwood and the northern reaches of the Highwood Mountains define this landscape within Chouteau County. The terrain is characterized by a series of deep coulees and seasonal creeks, including Brown Coulee, Spring Coulee, and Big Sag Cr, which drain from the higher elevations of Gossack Mtn and Harris Mtn. These geological formations create a distinct tableland environment where the Big Sag Lake provides a notable water feature in an otherwise arid drainage basin.
