Six Rivers National Forest anchors this high-elevation landscape along the border of Humboldt and Trinity counties. The terrain is defined by dramatic peaks and distinct geologic formations, most notably the dark prominence of Black Lassic and its companion, Red Lassic. These peaks overlook a complex network of drainage basins, where the headwaters of the Little Van Duzen River and the W Fork Van Duzen River carve through the mountains.
