Six Rivers National Forest anchors this high-elevation landscape along the border of Humboldt and Trinity counties. The prominent cluster of peaks known as Black Lassic, Mount Lassic, and Red Lassic dominates the central topography, providing a dramatic backdrop for the headwaters of the Van Duzen River. This late-1990s revision reveals a rugged interior accessible primarily by light-duty roads like Alderpoint Road and the track through Freezeout. Evidence of the area's grazing and timber history is scattered across the sheet at sites like Buck Pasture, Fingal Ranch, and Perry Salt Log. The drainage network is particularly dense, with numerous springs and small basins such as Lost Lake and Dry Lake feeding into steep watercourses like Devils Gut and Little Trail Creek. The arrangement of camps and family-named landmarks like Senteney Rock illustrates the enduring human imprint on this remote stretch of Northern California.
