The high desert landscape along the border of Washoe and Humboldt counties is defined by volcanic peaks and seasonal water sources. Centered on the Blowout Mtn quadrangle, the terrain transitions from the high elevations of Fish Creek Mtn in the north to the Badger Mountains and Badger Mtn in the southwest. This area forms a critical part of the Sheldon Antelope Rnge, where the network of springs, including Cottonwood Spring, Crystal Spring, and Rodero Springs, indicates the vital importance of water for both wildlife and regional ranching interests.
