Boise National Forest and Challis National Forest meet in this high-altitude landscape dominated by expansive open meadows and a complex network of cold-water streams. The geography is anchored by large level clearings such as Bruce Meadows and Poker Meadows, which provide critical flat ground in an otherwise mountainous region. This terrain supported the development of seasonal infrastructure, most notably the Bruce Meadows Airport and a cluster of remote recreation sites including the Bruce Meadows Campground and Fir Creek Campground. The drainage system of Bear Valley Creek and its tributaries, including Wyoming Cr and Ayers Cr, dictates the movement through the valley, with Bear Valley Rd and Dagger Falls Rd serving as the primary corridors for access to the interior peaks like Blue Bunch Mtn.
