Wind River and its major tributary, the East Fork Wind River, dominate this section of Fremont County, where the high desert terrain of the Wind River Basin meets the southeastern edge of the Shoshone National Forest. The landscape is defined by an intricate network of early irrigation efforts, including the Circle Ditch, Curson Ditch, and the Miller Red Cr Canal, which diverted water to sustain high-altitude ranching and agriculture.
