McCloud River canyon and the steep ridges of the Shasta National Forest dominate this 1990 survey. The topography is defined by the drainage systems of Nosoni Creek, Mathles Creek, and Dooles Creek as they descend toward the Squaw Creek Arm and Shasta Lake. At the northern end of the lake, several recreation sites such as McCloud Bridge Campground and Ellery Creek Campground mark the transition from riverine to reservoir environment.
