Tongass National Forest dominates the terrain of this coastal Alaskan region, where the steep topography of the mainland meets the cold waters of the Gulf of Alaska. The landscape is defined by the narrow passage of the Bradfield Canal, a glacial waterway that carves through the forest. Numerous drainage systems feed into this marine environment, including East Fork Anan Creek and Gray Creek in the southern portion, and Shag Creek and Tom Creek to the north. These drainage patterns illustrate the complex relationship between the high coastal elevations and the tidal inlets. This survey captures the remote character of the Wrangell City and Borough area, documenting the shoreline and drainages like Hoya Creek as they existed in the early twenty-first century.
