The Cherry County sandhills of Nebraska are defined by a sequence of parallel depressions and shallow water bodies in this 2014 topographic study. Waupan Valley, Ideal Valley, and Survey Valley stretch across the northern portion of the landscape, creating a distinct east-west orientation of the terrain. These valleys are separated by complex dune formations typical of the region, where elevation changes are subtle but constant.
