About this map

The high eastern slopes of the Blue Ridge dominate this mid-1960s landscape, where the ridge line forms the border between Rockingham Co and Albemarle Co. The rugged terrain is bisected by the Skyline Drive and the Appalachian Trail, providing access to high-altitude landmarks like the Civil War Gun Emplacement and the Doyles River Overlook. These ridges drop sharply into deep drainage basins, notably Blackwells Hollow and Sugar Hollow, the latter feeding the Charlottesville Reservoir.
