Superior National Forest dominates this section of the Boundary Waters, centered on the sprawling waters of Brule Lake. The landscape is a dense network of glacial lakes and portage-style connections, including the chain of North Cone Lake, Middle Cone Lake, and South Cone Lake. Landforms such as Fishbox Island and Jock Mock Point break the surface of the larger basins, while smaller, secluded water bodies like Famine Lake and Whack Lake are tucked into the high-elevation contours.
