The mining history of the northern Cascades is etched into the terrain of Buckhorn Mountain, just south of the border between the United States and Canada. This survey reflects the landscape at the turn of the 21st century, where the slopes are marked by a concentration of historical extraction sites, including the Magnetic Mine, Gold Axe Mine, and the Buckhorn Mine. Numerous mineshaft and prospect labels indicate the intensive search for minerals in this part of the Okanogan National Forest.
