The North Promontory Mountains dominate this high-desert landscape in northern Utah, where the terrain transitions from the steep, ridged slopes of the range into the broad drainage of Hansel Valley Wash. This 2020 survey illustrates a sparsely populated section of Box Elder County defined by a rigid grid of rural access roads and cattle-country passages. Bulls Pass serves as a critical geographic notch within the mountains, facilitating movement through the high ground. The network of numbered routes, such as 18400 N Rd and 22520 N Rd, reflects the Bureau of Land Management's surveying of the public land system. Modern infrastructure is limited to these unimproved thoroughfares, including Sunset Pass Rd and N Hansel Valley Rd, which trace the contours of the valley floor and provide access to the remote backcountry of the Promontory range.
