The small settlement of Burdette sits at the heart of this South Dakota landscape, where the prairie is defined by the winding course of Wolf Cr and its northern branch, N Wolf Cr. The region's geography is anchored by a rigid grid of rural roads, including 183rd St and 369th Ave, which connect isolated homesteads and family farms. Local history is centered at two distinct burial grounds: Burdette Cem just south of the town center, and the more remote Sunbeam Cem situated near a bend in the creek.
