Spion Kop and the edge of Geyser anchor this central Montana landscape where the plains of Judith Basin County meet the high country. In the northwest, the Lewis & Clark National Forest rises into the Highwood Mountains, a transition marked by numerous drainages including Byrne Creek, Arrow Cr, and Erwin Cr. The land is heavily dissected by coulees, such as Flat Coulee, Castners Coulee, and Eastern Coulee, which dictate the local topography and the winding paths of rural routes like Co RD 201.
