Deschutes National Forest encompasses the northern portion of this landscape, where the volcanic character of the Oregon High Desert is visible in prominent landforms. The elevation changes reveal a collection of isolated peaks and buttes, including Flat Top, Reub Long Butte, and the distinctive Ft Rock, which sits near the southern edge of the survey. The terrain transitions from these high points toward the broad expanse of the Fort Rock Valley.
