Cactus and the neighboring settlement of Etter sit along the southeastern edge of this high plains landscape, defined by a rigid grid of county roads and industrial agricultural infrastructure. The boundary between Sherman Co and Moore Co bisects the northern half of the quadrangle, where the terrain is largely open and dominated by straight-line routes like FM 297 and Co Rd BB. A distinctive break in this geometric layout occurs along the drainage of N Palo Duro Cr, which cuts westward through the center of the sheet.
