The coastal municipalities of Camuy and Hatillo anchor this 2013 survey along the northern shoreline of the Island of Puerto Rico. This maritime landscape is defined by its series of rocky outcrops and points, including Peñón Brusi, Punta Manglillo, and Punta Maracayo, which meet the Atlantic Ocean. Moving inland, the terrain transitions into the karst-influenced interior where the Río Camuy carves its way through the limestone, passing the notable Salto Máquina.
