Helena National Forest lands dominate this area of the Big Belt Mountains, where the border between Lewis and Clark and Cascade counties follows the high ridgelines. The terrain is defined by a series of deep drainages, including Meriwether Canyon and Refrigerator Canyon, which cut through the steep slopes south of Candle Mtn. These geological formations, alongside Candle Gulch and Slip Gulch, create a complex network of canyons that feed into the larger Willow Creek system.
