Kiowa National Grassland encompasses this high plains landscape along the Mora and Harding County line. The terrain is deeply incised by the drainage systems of the Canadian River and its major tributary, Arroyo Piedra Lumbre. This network of steep-walled ravines includes numerous named canyons that suggest a history of local land usage and family settlement, such as Cañon Valdez, Cañon Monnet, Cañon Hondo, and Cañon Juan Maestas.
