Carlisle and the small settlement of French anchor this 2013 survey of the West Central Minnesota landscape. The area is defined by its complex glacial hydrology, where the Pelican River meanders southward to meet the Otter Tail River in the southeastern corner of the quadrangle. Significant water bodies including Lake Oscar, Fjestad Lake, and Johnson Lake dot the prairie, while the Dayton Hollow Reservoir and the expansive Skogen Marsh indicate the low-lying, water-rich nature of the terrain.
