The Willamette National Forest dominates this mountain landscape, which straddles the boundary between Linn and Lane counties. The topography is defined by the high elevations of Carpenter Mountain and Squaw Mtn, with the monolith of Wolf Rock standing near Wolf Meadow. This 1989 edition shows the intricate network of drainage systems feeding the South Santiam River in the north and the Blue River in the south, including Sevenmile Creek and McRae Creek.
