The rolling plains of the Foster and Stutsman County border define this agricultural landscape in North Dakota. The terrain is characterized by numerous small prairie potholes and wetlands, punctuated by the high point of Mt Morian in the center of the survey area. Water drainage is dominated by the winding course of Pipestem Creek and its tributary, Little Pipestem Creek, which meander through the eastern sections.
