About this map

Big Smoky Valley (Depression) dominates the eastern landscape of this 1971 survey, where the valley floor transitions into the expansive Alkali Flat. To the west, the steep slopes of the Toiyabe National Forest rise sharply, dissected by numerous drainage systems including Wisconsin Creek, Ophir Creek, and Last Chance Creek. The transition from the high forest to the basin floor is marked by a series of alluvial fans and several small-scale ranching operations such as Turks Ranch and RO Ranch.
