About this map

The Roaring Fork River corridor defines this 1961 survey, where the Denver and Rio Grande Western railroad tracks follow the eastern bank. This mountainous landscape in White River National Forest is deeply shaped by early 20th-century extraction and ranching infrastructure. Industrial history is visible in the remnants of the Abandoned Tramway serving the Black Diamond Mine, and the site of the Sunlight Mine (Abd) near Babbish Gulch. Water management is central to the area's utility, marked by the Glenwood Ditch and Atkinson Ditch skirting the highlands. Further south, the Crystal River Ranch and the Fourmile Gaging Sta indicate the transition from mining toward agricultural and environmental management. Remote high-country access is provided by several Pack Trails and Jeep Trails that wind through Dry Park and cross the Threemile Creek drainage.
