Caverns of Sonora marks the center of this Edwards Plateau landscape, where the subterranean complexity of the limestone region is hidden beneath a surface of branching drainage systems. The terrain is defined by dry watercourses like Granger Draw and Halbert Draw, which indicate the seasonal flow patterns typical of this semi-arid Texas ranching country. Transportation is dominated by the Interstate 10 corridor along the northern edge, supported by Ranch Rd 1989 and Ranch Rd 1312. This 2016 survey illustrates how the land remains largely divided into large private parcels accessed by an extensive network of numbered private roads, such as Pvt Rd 4470 and Pvt Rd 4411, maintaining the isolated, rural character of Sutton County.
