Cedar lies along the high desert plateau near the transition between the Carbon and Emery County line. The landscape is defined by the complex drainage systems of Icelander Cr and Grassy Trail Cr, which carve through the arid terrain. To the east, the topography rises sharply into the Book Cliffs region, revealed through the deep incisions of Fan Canyon, Middle Canyon, and Horse Canyon. A network of early transportation routes, including the Old Hwy and Price-River Rd, crisscross the area, reflecting the historic movement of people and resources through this part of the Colorado Plateau. Rare water sources like Good Water Spring and Coon Spring stand out as critical landmarks in an otherwise dry environment of washes and canyons, such as Coleman Wash and Grassy Wash.
