Center Hill Lake dominates this landscape, its irregular shoreline reaching deep into the numerous hollows of DeKalb, Smith, and Putnam counties. The topography is defined by narrow ridges and steep drainages, where names like Stillhouse Hollow, Poison Hollow, and Wildcat Hollow reflect a long history of local woodsmanship and isolated mountain life. Along the higher ground of Tucker Ridge and Medley Ridge, family-run cemeteries such as the Garr/Jones/Merritt Cem and Mollie League Cem provide a clear record of the generations who settled this part of the Highland Rim before and after the impoundment of the Caney Fork.
