Cerro Verde and the high elevations of Sierra Lucero dominate this high-desert landscape in Cibola County. The terrain is defined by volcanic features, most notably Volcano Hill and the prominent plateau of Black Mesa. These formations rise above a network of drainage systems, including Arroyo Colorado in the northwest and Arroyo Lucero along the eastern edge of the survey area.
