Chacon and El Rito sit within the high valley of the Mora River at the convergence of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and the Santa Fe Mountains. This 2017 survey shows a landscape defined by sharp elevation changes and deeply cut drainages such as Lujan Canyon and Quemado Canyon. The settlement pattern follows the river and its tributaries, notably Luna Cr, with several small community burial grounds including Chacon Cem, El Rito Cem, and San Antonio Cem situated near the valley floor. Much of the northern terrain is managed as the Carson National Forest, where the topography rises into the Rincon Mountains. The map traces numerous local routes like Luna Canyon Rd and Boon Co Rd, which provide access through the timbered heights and narrow canyons of northern Mora County.
