Chacon sits at the confluence of several mountain drainages in the high northern New Mexico terrain, where the Mora River is formed by the union of Luna Creek and other local runs. The settlement is defined by its deep Catholic and community heritage, evidenced by the clustered presence of the Chacon Cem, El Rito Cem, and San Antonio Cem near the valley floor. The surrounding landscape transitions sharply from the agricultural bottomlands into the high peaks of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and the Santa Fe Mountains. This area within the Carson National Forest is characterized by dramatic elevation changes, with named draws like Lujan Canyon and Marias Canyon carving through the mountain blocks. Significant landmarks such as the Rincon Mountains and Vete Vista (Grande) overlook the valley, while Luna Canyon Rd provides the primary access through the corridor.
