The Columbia River carves a significant path through this Stevens County landscape, defining the northern geography as it flows past the settlement of Marble and the historic site at Ryan. The terrain rises sharply from the riverbanks towards several prominent peaks, including Lookout Mtn and O'Toole Mtn, separated by the high-elevation Swede Pass. Much of the shoreline and lower valley is protected within the Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area, where unique river features like China Bar and Graffiti Bar are visible along the water's edge.
