The Beale Wagon road and the Atlantic and Pacific RR define the transportation corridor across this northern Arizona landscape during the late nineteenth century. These routes follow a path south of the Colorado Plateau, connecting rail stops and ranching outposts such as Ash Fork, Crookton, and Garland Ranch. The region relies on a network of water sources including Wagathile Tank, Davenport Tanks, and Laws Spring, which were vital for travel through the arid terrain between the Aubrey Cliffs and the prominent peaks of Bill Williams Mt and Mt Sitgreaves.
