The Navajo Indian Reservation landscape is defined here by prominent high-desert formations and broad geological plateaus. At the northwestern edge of the map, the namesake Church Rock stands as a landmark overlooking the wide Church Rock Valley. The terrain is characterized by massive sandstone features, including the sprawling Baby Rocks Mesa and the distinctively named Facing Red Points.

Evidence of human activity and resource management is visible through a significant Pipeline corridor in the north and several Borrow Pits near the center of the sheet. The desert floor transitions from the Small White Mesa Flat in the southwest toward the drainage of Blackhorse Wash in the southeast. This 1968 field-checked survey reveals a remote landscape where land lines had not yet been established, and selected fence lines provide the primary markers of human presence across the mesas.
