The Little Missouri River carves a winding path through the eastern half of this McKenzie County landscape, establishing a deep drainage pattern for the surrounding badlands. Within Rhoades Twp, the terrain is defined by a dense network of intermittent watercourses, including Cinnamon Creek, Horse Creek, and Bear Creek, which all flow toward the main river valley.

Functional hydrology is evidenced by several high-elevation artesian sources, specifically identified as Flowing Well 2153 and Flowing Well 2127 near the center of the survey. These wells, along with other unnamed flowing wells, represent critical water access points for the ranching operations in this sparsely populated region. The northern section is further dissected by Covered Bridge Cr and French Creek, showing the erosion-heavy character of the North Dakota plains before modern land-use changes.
