Beaverhead National Forest encompasses the vast majority of this high-altitude landscape, where the Gravelly Range and Greenhorn Range converge. The topography is defined by a dense network of gulches, including the historically significant Alder Gulch and Barton Gulch, which drop away from prominent peaks like Baldy Mtn. A series of alpine water bodies, most notably Cirque Lake, Talus Lake, and Blue Lake, are fed by spring-thaw drainages such as Arasta Creek and the North Fork Greenhorn Creek.
