Hahn sits at the northern edge of this high-altitude landscape, where the northern end of the Lemhi Range meets a network of drainages and named canyons. This 2011 survey documents a remote section of Idaho terrain defined by its water sources and rugged geology, notably Coal Kiln Canyon and the surrounding peaks. The mapping of Coal Kiln Spring, Box Springs, Willow Spring, and McCoy Spring suggests the vital importance of these perennial water points for both wildlife and land management in an arid mountain environment.
