Big Cockroach Mound and the intricate coastal wetlands of Cockroach Bay anchor this 2015 survey of the eastern shore of Tampa Bay. The landscape is a transition between the industrial developments of Piney Point and the preserved mangrove islands and tidal passes to the north. These coastal features include a complex network of waterways such as Marys Lake Pass, Jump Pass, and the Cockroach Channel, which separate numerous small landforms like the Hallelujah Keys and Snake Key.
