Colorado City and the neighboring settlement of Greenhorn sit at the foot of the southern Colorado foothills, where the high plains meet the transition to the mountains. This 2022 survey illustrates a landscape shaped by water management and modern aviation, centered around the Beckwith Reservoir and the Bonnie Meade Reservoir. The region's genealogy and early settlement roots are visible at the Hicklin Family Cem and the Colorado City Cem, alongside the Vigil Ch and Greenhorn School. To the east, the terrain drops into the distinctive Graneros Gorge, while a series of drainage systems including Scroggs Arroyo, Mustang Arroyo, and Pinkney Arroyo carve through the arid landscape. Small-scale aviation is represented by The Flying Z Airport to the north and the Diamond Star Ranch Airport near the border of Pueblo County.
