Bighorn National Forest dominates the southern half of this landscape in Sheridan County, where the terrain rises toward the prominent Columbus Peak. This 2015 survey reveals a complex water management system essential for high-plains agriculture and ranching, evidenced by the numerous irrigation channels such as Tschirgi Ditch Number 1, Tschirgi Ditch Number 2, and Church Ditch. These engineered waterways diverted flow from mountain streams like E Pass Cr and W Pass Cr to serve local needs. Several high-elevation impoundments, including Reynolds Reservoir Number 1 and the Kiewit Reservoir Number 1 complex, dot the northern sections of the map. Access to this high country is maintained via rural routes like Pass Creek Rd and Parkman-Slack Rd, which navigate the foothills and valleys where Twin Cr and Columbus Cr originate.
