The Atascosa River winds through the Live Oak County landscape, defining a terrain of numerous named hollows and low ridges. The mid-1960s rural economy is clearly visible through the heavy infrastructure of the Missouri Pacific railroad and U.S. Route 281, which intersect near the small settlement of Suniland. Along the southern reach of the river, the Good Hope Ch serves as a local landmark for the surrounding community.
