Lochsa River flows through the northern reaches of this Idaho County landscape, carving through the Black Canyon and passing the Major Fenn Picnic Area. The terrain is defined by dramatic elevation changes, rising from the riverbanks up to the heights of Coolwater Mtn and Sheep Hill. This 2014 survey documents a region split between the Clearwater National Forest and the Nez Perce National Forest, where high-altitude water bodies like Andys Lakes, Coolwater Lake, and Fire Lake sit tucked within the ridges.
