The Arikaree River carves a distinct path through the southern half of this Washington County landscape, accompanied by the drainage of Gordon Cr. This 2013 survey illustrates a highly organized rural grid system, where the Public Land Survey System sections are neatly bisected by a network of county roads such as CO Road 12 and CO Road 6. The primary artery for the region is Us-36 E, which cuts diagonally across the central plains. Unlike more densely settled areas, this portion of the High Plains focuses on the relationship between water access and the expansive township and range divisions, including t004s r050w and t005s r049w. The transition from the flat tablelands to the river valley is the defining geographic feature of the quadrangle.
