Cottonwood Valley defines the landscape of this high-plains region on the border of Adams and Arapahoe Counties. The terrain is shaped by a series of north-flowing intermittent drainages, including Cottonwood Cr, Wetzel Cr, and Rattlesnake Cr, which carve through the open country. A significant genealogical landmark, the Jolly Family Cem, is situated near Badger Cr in the northwestern corner of the quadrangle, south of Co RD 2. The map illustrates a rural transportation network dominated by section-line roads such as Yacatan Rd and Hollingsworth Rd, reflecting the enduring grid of the Public Land Survey System. This survey shows the area as it remains largely dedicated to ranching and agricultural use, with few permanent structures outside of scattered homesteads.
