Coyote Buttes and the surrounding high desert of Coconino County are defined by a complex network of dry washes and deeply carved canyons. The drainage patterns of Coyote Wash dominate the eastern landscape, passing through Corral Valley and several named narrows like North Larkum Canyon and Basin Canyon. This 2012 survey illustrates the reliance on livestock infrastructure in an arid environment, shown through scattered water sources such as Maries Reservoir, Lone Tree Reservoir, and Press Tank.
