Tongass National Forest covers this coastal stretch of the Alexander Archipelago, where the terrain transitions from the saltwater of the Pacific Ocean to the high peaks of Clover Mtn and Nipple Butte. The landscape is defined by its intricate shoreline, carved by Spiral Cove, Trollers Cove, and Sunny Cove. Inland, the drainage systems of Clover Cr and Sunny Creek feed several freshwater bodies, most notably Clover Lake and Monie Lake. This remote portion of Prince of Wales Island remains largely undeveloped, with no roads or settlements indicated, showing only the natural features and the West Arm Cholmondeley Sound at the southern edge. Researchers can observe the natural hydrography and elevation contours as they existed in the early 21st century across these wilderness lands.
