Mustang Island and the northern tip of Padre Island form a narrow barrier system along the Texas coast, separated by the historic Corpus Christi Pass and Newport Pass. This 2016 survey captures the complex estuarine environment of Corpus Christi Bay, where the Intracoastal Waterway cuts through shallow flats. The landscape is defined by tidal openings and channels such as Packery Channel and Wilsons Cut, which dictate the movement of water and boats through the Laguna Madre area.
