The Chippewa River winds through the western half of this Rusk County landscape, anchoring a network of small settlements and rural crossroads in the late 2010s. The small community of Murry sits near the river's bend, while the oddly named Imalone and the namesake Crane are situated along the local road network to the south and east. This area is defined by its complex hydrography, where the Thornapple River and the Little Thornapple River converge amidst a terrain dotted with wetlands and small water bodies like Bass Lake.
