Tunnel Spring Number 1 and Tunnel Spring Number 2 define the northern hydrology of this high-desert landscape in Box Elder County. The terrain is dominated by the northern reaches of the Pilot Range, where deep incisions like McGinty Canyon and Birch Canyon cut through the western slopes. These canyons and ridges, including the prominent McGinty Ridge, dictate the path of several primitive routes, most notably the Loop Rd and Pilot Mountain Rd. Farther east, the elevation drops toward the salt flats, marked by the isolated rise of Lemay Island. Critical water sources like McLaughlin Spring and Patterson Pass Spring are mapped along the higher elevations, providing a sense of the resource-scarce environment that has shaped travel and land use in this part of the Great Basin.
